It is known that the centre has introduced new IT rules and made them mandatory for all social media platforms, who want to continue their services in India.
Now, social media giant Facebook has given a huge shock to its user as it actioned over 30 million content pieces across 10 violation categories during May 15-June 15 in the country.
The company said in its first monthly compliance report that it was taking action in line with the new IT rules that have recently come into force domestically. It said it would publish its next report on July 15, detailing consumer complaints and actions taken.
According to IT regulations, over 3 crore user posts were erased in the country between May 15 and June 15 under 10 categories of infringement. During the same period, Facebook-owned Instagram took action on the content of two million users in nine categories. It contains spam (25 million), violent, graphic content (2.5 million), adult nudity, and 1.8 million sexually explicit content. It said there were 106,000 posts related to terrorist propaganda, 311,000 posts on hate speech and 118,000 posts on harassment content.
According to the new IT regulation arbitration guidelines, Digital Media Ethics Code, leading digital platforms (with over 5 million users) are required to publish compliance reports every month. Details of complaints on the respective platforms and the action taken on them should be disclosed.
