England suffered a major setback ahead of the third Test against Team India, which starts on Wednesday. Star pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of the Test with a shoulder injury.
The English pacer was injured on the fourth day of the Lord’s Test. The England team management expected him to recover by the time of the third Test. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in England (ECB) announced that Wood would miss the third Test as he is not fully fit.
However, the ECB said Mark Wood would remain with the team and focus on recovery under medical supervision. After the third Test, he will undergo another fitness test and will be dropped from the series if he still does not recover.
The recent injury to Wood is a further blow to the England squad, which has already lost the services of star pacers such as Stuart Broad, Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes. Seamer Saqib Mahmood, who was called up as cover for Broad, could make his debut in the third test. He played seven ODIs and nine T20Is.
