Former Union Minister Balaram Nayak has been disqualified by the Central Electoral Commission. Balaram, who contested from Mahabubabad constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, was disqualified by the EC for not submitting details of election expenses to the Central Electoral Commission within the stipulated time.
Balaram Nayak has been disqualified from contesting for both the Houses of Parliament, the Upper house and the Lower house, for three years. State Chief Electoral Officer Shashank Goyal issued a gazette notification in this regard. Balaram Nayak was elected MP for the Congress in 2009. He later served as a minister in the cabinet headed by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Also, Venkateswara Rao, who contested as a CPI candidate from Mahabubabad, was disqualified by the EC.
