Discussion on the GHMC elections is a real waste of time?

If you are not well aware of our over-civilised urban people, let us ask you a question..! What do you think would be the polling percentage in the upcoming GHMC elections…? Are you thinking a number well over 70% at the least..? Or is it 60?

Only 41.22 percent exercised their right to vote in the 2012 GHMC elections. In some divisions only 15 percent of voters casted their vote. You can understand the situation now. In the last 2016 GHMC elections, only 45.27 per cent voted. The poorest of the poor in the dirty streets exercised their right to vote in higher numbers.

Wealthy government and private employees did not actually come to the polling stations. If you look at the worsened state of roads in Hyderabad during the rainy season, don’t blame the politicians entirely. Because, more than 50% of the people in the Smart city are smart enough not to waste time on casting votes even though the polling day was a holiday. Let’s give some credit to all those people.

In rich and affluent areas like Madhapur, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Kondapur, Gachibowli, Chandanagar, Filmnagar, Sheikhpet, Abids and other places, even 50 per cent polling is not recorded in every election.

Here is the biggest obstacle to democracy and here is the fact that no matter how much the Electoral Commission government is campaigning, the greater voter turnout will not go beyond this average. So, what’s the point in discussing – “who’s contesting? Who is the better contestant? And which party will win?”
