The Delhi High Court on Wednesday passed the new rule that it is mandatory to wear a mask in a even when driving alone in a two wheeler or four wheeler vehicle. The Court stated that if the vehicle passes by public places, others are more likely to be vulnerable to covid if approached the private vehicle or exposed to the individual.
“Wearing of a mask in a vehicle, which may be occupied by either a single person or multiple persons, is… compulsory in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic,” as per the order.
The verdict was put forth by a Single Judge Bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh in several pleas challenging the enforcement of challan on those driving alone in their cars while not wearing a mask.
All these petitions were rejected as without merit, with the HC observing: “A mask is like a Suraksha Kavach (safety armour) for containing the spread of the coronavirus. It protects the person wearing it and also the person who is exposed…wearing of masks has been one measure that has saved millions of lives,” the court stated.
