Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu strictly went against the Election Commission for allegedly troubling AP, during the emergency situation like Cyclone Fani.
He questioned the EC’s silence over his recent letter seeking exemption of AP from Model Code of Election. Naidu opined that there is no meaning of the government elected by the people, when Chief Minister of a state is not able to act in favor of the public during a turbulent situation like Cyclone Fani, hitting the state. Naidu said that if needed, he would also visit the cyclone-hit areas.
“I am silent only to avoid a rift between the central and state governments. I respect the federal structure of the country and expect the Centre to replicate it. The Central government is trying to split official mechanism in AP. When any such acts disturb the public life, I wouldn’t keep silence,” Naidu said.
He opined that as the elections are over, nothing can influence the voters at this time. Naidu said that there’s no meaning in EC trying to create hurdles for the AP government, from providing civic services to the public.
