Covid impacts pomp and grandeur of Dussehra festival in the city

The pomp and grandeur during the Dussehra festival is pretty high, but the festive spirit seemingly disappeared in the city this year with covid impact.

From looking for the celebration to going to temples, the usual scenes were diminished with most residents celebrating the merriments simply, given the pandemic circumstance. The crowd at shopping centres and other such crowd pulling sites, for instance, Sultan Bazaar, Ameerpet and Dilsukhnagar, the sort of shopping that generally occurs on Navami day was not conspicuous.

Dusshera, also known as Vijayadashami is celebrated to mark the victory over evil on this special day after nine auspicious nights called ‘Navratri’ as per Hindu tradition. Local communities and colonies assemble to burn Ravan effigy using Rama avatar aiming at the 10 faces with the arrow to commemorate the victory. However, this special ritual too went missing in many parts of the city due to the covid effect.

The decorative items, leafy foods and fruits’ vendors who sell at residential areas and furthermore along interstates claim to have lost the pace and said it is totally low key compared to previous years. “Indeed, even we have less stock to sell in view of the circumstance,” a flower vendor at Koti said. At sanctuaries, the long lines of vehicles for puja were likewise not noticeable on Ayudha Puja Day, and most celebrated puja at the comfort of their homes.
