COVID-19: Government admonishes publicity of Patanjali’s medicines

Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali recently launched its medicine ‘Coronil’ and claimed that it has noticed 100% favourable results during clinical trials on COVID-19 patients, except those on ventilator systems. During the launch at a press meet in Haridwar, Ramdev claimed the medicine has remarkably shown “100% recovery rate in 5-14 days”.

Ayurved MD Acharya Balkrishna launched ‘Coronil’ and ‘Swasari’ proclaiming that it can be used for prevention of Covid-19. Notwithstanding, the AYUSH ministry said the facts of the medication and subtleties of the claimed scientific examination are not known to it.

As indicated by a June 2 order, bogus cases and publicizing endorsement of clinical study or item manufacturing control about COVID-19, providing COVID-19 related cases and name of the service of AYUSH on the labels commensurate to repudiation of lawful provisions.

Ministry stated that Patanjali Ayurved Ltd has been approached to furnish with precise details of the name and complete inclusion of the composition being asserted for coronavirus infection treatment, data of study conducted in hospitals or clinics and the protocols followed.

It has additionally been urged to give data on test size, details of the Institutional Ethics Committee clearance, CTRI enlistment, results of the trials and finally admonished Patanjali to quit promoting/publicizing such things till the case is appropriately inspected”.

As per the DRUGS AND MAGIC REMEDIES (Objectionable Advertisements) ACT, advertising drugs and remedies claiming to have magical properties is prohibited and doing so is offence, which is further dealt in pharmaceutical jurisprudence subject. Since Patanjali hasn’t provided any of the medicines’ details, the ministry has probed more in to the issue and warned to stop endorsing it.
