Covid-19: AYUSH and CSIR collaborates to develop four AYUSH formulations

The AYUSH Ministry and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have collaborated to work on determining the efficacy of four Ayush formulations against Covid-19 , Union minister Shripad Y Naik tweeted on Thursday. He also added that the preliminary trials is probable to begin within a week.

The Ministry announced just immediately after Prime Minister Narendra Modi compelled the people of India with a strategy “vocal for local”, with a motto to extend support for India’s indigenous businesses.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is one of the most widely relied and largely funded scientific and industrial research organizations for the development of new vaccines, clinical trials or treatments. While the Ministry of AYUSH, which stands for ayurveda, yoga, unani, siddha and homeopathy, lays emphasis on usage of long lost India’s traditional form of medicine.

Earlier in the last week CSIR Director-General Mande stated that Union health Minister Harsh Vardhan announced that CSIR and AYUSH will work on four different formulations to battle against covid-19 and the results are expected within three months.

Kotecha said that AYUSH and CSIR tie up has a broader perspective and larger vision than expected. “ He said these four candidates are – Ashwagandha, Yashtimadhu (Mulethi), Guduchi and Pipapli (Giloy) and AYUSH-64, which was developed for the treatment of malaria and its viability is being rechecked. We have also worked on a competitive study between Hydroxychloroquine and Ashwagandha,” he added.

“The @moayush & the @CSIR_IND are working together on validating four Ayush formulations against #COVID19 pandemic and the trials will start within one week. These formulations will be tried as an add-on therapy and standard care for COVID-19 patients. I am sure and quite hopeful that, our traditional medicinal system will show the way to overcome this pandemic,” Shripad Naik said on Twitter.
