Covid-19: A 60 yr old patient recovers from plasma therapy at PIGMER

A 60-year-old man admitted in Chandigarh PGI Hospital recovered and discharged after a plasma therapy, which looks promising in the lives of corona virus patients. A 60-year-old man from Kurukshetra fell ill due to pneumonia. Doctors identified the plasma donor on june 1st and gave him plasma therapy and other treatments. As a result, within three days, the patient was stopped from oxygen therapy as he began to recuperate. He was discharged from the hospital because the symptoms mitigated and his health improved completely.

Professor Jagat Ram, Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) congratulated all the doctors who have strived hard to make this initiative a success. He was the first person to recover from plasma therapy at PGIMER. Plasma therapy is in general recommended for those with severe coronary artery disease or pneumonia. He anticipated that there should be a lot more publicity about this technique, as the success rate has increased.

Dean of the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, Head Professor GD Puri, talks about treatment with plasma therapy as a positive indicator for coronavirus treatment. He said, “This treatment requires more donors to come forward for clinical trials to improve the efficacy. Family members and relatives are urged to encourage patients who have recovered from corona to donate blood”. ICMR said it could offer plasma therapy to corona-positive patients who require oxygen therapy, which has chosen PGIMER as one of the main centres for covid-19 treatment.
