For the unversed, BJP leader Dr Rajneesh Singh filed a petition in Allahabad High Court seeking a direction to the Archeological Survey of India to unlock 20 sealed doors of the historical monument Taj Mahal to settle the controversy around its origins.
In his petition, he urged for a fact-finding inquiry into the history of the Taj Mahal. Justices DK Upadhyay and Subhash Vidyarthi, who heard the petition today, rejected his plea and said that these kinds of matters should be left to the historians.
“Asking for a fact-finding committee to look into this does not fall under the purview of your rights, it does not fall under the ambit of RTI. We are not convinced,” the court said.
“For the prayer regarding opening up of the rooms, the historical research ought to involve a proper methodology. This should be left to the historians,” the court added.
“Go and research. Do M.A. Do PhD. Then choose such a topic and if any institute disallows you to research on such a topic,” the bench comprising Justices DK Upadhyay and Subhash Vidyarthi told the petitioner.
