Court notice, embarrassment to KCR

Telangana High Court’s decision to entertain a petition alleging that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has given false information in his affidavit while contesting from Gajwel constitueny, is going to create some ‘uninvited’ embarrassment to the party ahead of April 11 Lok Sabha polls.

On Tuesday, the Telangana High Court had issued a notice to the Chief Minister directing him to respond to a petition which alleged that he had concealed information regarding the number of criminal cases pending against him.

Justice Shameem Akthar issued the notice, who was adjudicating on the election petition filed by one Thammala Srinivas, an agriculturist and a resident of Mamidyala village in Mulugu mandal of Siddipet.

Justice Akthar also served notices to the electoral registration officer and the returning officer for the Gajwel assembly constituency.

The petitioner’s counsel, Damodar Reddy, alleged as against 68 pending cases against him (KCR), he had just mentioned only two in the affidavit.  However, he said KCR had in another affidavit revealed of 64 cases pending against him, which tantamounts to ‘concealing of important information.’

The petitioner urged the court to set aside Gajwel assembly result on the grounds that the candidate had given false information whereas it was required to be given through a sworn affidavit, along with nomination papers was not eligible to contest election.

The petitioner also alleged that the irresponsibility of the ‘returning officer’  for accepting nomination papers of KCR is also guilty of crime.

The court adjourned the case for four weeks for the replies from the respondents.
