The Union Government made it clear on several occasions that it has nothing to do with the shifting of the capital of Andhra Pradesh from Amaravati to the proposed three cities of Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Kurnool, each acting as the legislature, executive, and judiciary capitals of the state respectively.
Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju, on Friday in the Lok Sabha, in his reply to the question raised by YSR Congress MPs Kotagiri Sridhar and Chintha Anuradha, stated that the decision regarding the shifting of the High Court from Amaravati to Kurnool has to be decided by the Chief Minsiter and the Chief Justice of AP and that the union government has no say in that. The union minister also noted that this was the same response the central government had given to the letter that CM Jagan wrote in 2020. He also noted that every expense regarding the shifting of the HC would have to be spent by the state government itself.
This would mean that AP CM Jagan would have to meet with AP Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra. Jagan is also reported to have planned to meet with the CJ and arrive at a decision regarding the shifting of the HC very soon.
