With Chief Justice of India SA Bobde retiring on April 23 this year, the Centre had asked him to recommend his successor last week.
Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on March 19 penned a letter to the CJI, seeking his proposal.
In response to the Centre’s request, CJI Bobde has endorsed Justice NV Ramana as his replacement after he leaves the SC. The former has handed over a copy of the letter of recommendation to Justice Ramana after forwarding it to the Centre.
As per reports, Justice NV Ramana is the most senior judge in the Supreme Court after CJI SA Bobde. Born on August 27, 1957, Justice Ramana hails from Andhra Pradesh.
He was appointed as a permanent judge of the AP High Court in June 2000. He will have a term as the country’s top judge for a year and four months, till August 26, 2022.
