By now, everyone is aware that the Russian-made Mi-17 V5 helicopter carrying India’s first CDS Bipin Rawat crashed around noon Wednesday. The highest defence officer, his wife, and 11 others on the chopper died in the tragic accident.
Group Captain Varun Singh SC is the sole survivor in the chopper crash and was taken to a hospital. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today told the Parliament that Varun Singh is on life support and all efforts are being made to save him. He is currently under treatment at the Military Hospital, Wellington.
Gp Capt Varun Singh was awarded the Shaurya Chakra on Independence Day this year after he managed to land the Light Combat Aircraft, which developed system failure.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force has ordered a tri-service inquiry into the chopper crash. The inquiry team led by Air Marshal Manvendra Singh reached the site yesterday, Rajnath Singh said in Lok Sabha.
