Chinna Review: Honest but Underwhelming

Siddharth is a well-known actor in the Telugu states and has released many successful films throughout his career. While he has not been able to deliver proper success in recent times. he has now come up with Chinna, which has been released today. Let’s see how the film has turned out to be.

Story:

Chinna is a small-time employee in the municipality, and the sole caretaker of Chitti, his elder brother’s daughter. After the passing of his elder brother, Chitti’s responsibility falls on to Chinna. One day, one of Chitti’s friends gets assaulted and everything changes completely when Chitti goes missing soon after. What happens hereafter and does Chinna find Chitti in the end forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Siddharth has definitely come out of his lover boy image for this film, in which he is seen in a very different avatar. He has definitely put in a lot of effort when it comes to immersing himself in the character that he has been seen in, in this film. Owing to his image, it might get difficult sometimes to actually believe him in that role, but Siddharth managed to bring his character to life and portray his inner turmoil well enough on the screen.

Sahasra Sri, who plays Chitti in the film, is exceptional in her role and performance, especially in the second half, considering the subject matter of the film. The way she brings out her emotions in the second half tugs at your heart, making you wonder about real-life circumstances.

The rest of the cast, including the leading lady Nimisha Sajayan, are good enough in their roles and have done their part well enough.

Off-Screen Talents:

Director Arun Kumar has taken up a very sensitive subject in this film and decided to take his time when it came to setting up the plot. He has done that well and even executed his story well enough. He raises several important points and questions throughout the film considering how sensitive and delicate the topics he handles are. While everything seems to be nice, one of the major flaws of this film is that it doesn’t really pick up pace until the second half, and seems to be dragging and taking up too much time to establish things. Furthermore, certain scenes throughout the film seem overdramatic, which might not sit well with the audience.

The background scene and cinematography complement the film and its setting well enough and go hand in hand with the story. The production values are good, and the editing is all right.

Verdict: Chinna is not a movie that was made to entertain you, it is a movie that was made to raise some essential questions and that, it does well. If you’re looking for a film like that, then Chinna is the film for you. Otherwise, it can be skipped.
