The Union home ministry on Thursday asked all the states and UTs to extended the nationwide Covid-19 restrictions, which were put in place after its April 29 order, till June 30.
The ministry said the curbs are necessary to keep a check on the spread of the infection, even though the number of cases is declining.
Home secretary Ajay Bhalla has written all states and UTs asking them to keep strict rules in enforcing containment and other measures in view of the diminishing trend in the number of new and active-daily Covid cases.
“I would like to highlight that despite the declining trend, the number of active cases presently is still very high. It is, therefore, important that containment measures may continue to be implemented strictly,” the order said.
“Any relaxation by States/UTs, may be considered at an appropriate time, in a graded manner, after checking the local situation, requirements and resources,” it further said.
