The Supreme Court recently remarked that the CBI is not concerned and is being negligent in the cases filed against people who are making derogatory and offending remarks against the judiciary. As soon as the SC made these remarks, the CBI seems to have picked up the pace, with the CBI arresting five people in connection to these cases, just recently.
So far, three people have been arrested, and with this latest arrest, a total of 8 people have been arrested. Several big names are involved in this case, and the trials against these people have been registered as Suo Moto. Notices were sent to a total of 90 people, including Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh, former Chirala MLA Aanchi, MLA Gudivada Amarnath and journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao. It is also likely for MP Nandigam Suresh and Amanchi Krishnamohan to be questioned now.
The case was initially being looked into by the CID, but it was then handed over to the CBI, as there was dissatisfaction over the way the CID was handling the case. However, even the CBI didn’t take the matter seriously until two days ago, when the CJI himself expressed dissatisfaction. On the other hand, Sakshi journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao gave an exclusive interview to Suman TV, a YouTube channel, and made insulting remarks about the courts. Punch Prabhakar, an American resident, is also known to make seriously offending remarks against the judiciary, and it is expected that these people will be kept a close eye on, by the CBI.
