B’day Special: Harish Shankar, The ‘Hatke’ Director

Harish Shankar is a big asset to Telugu Cinema for the fact that he can make a movie without any confusion. He himself writes the story, dialogues and screenplay for his films and creates a blockbuster within no time. His realistic, honest and entertaining approach gave us some remarkable gems like Mirapakay, Gabbar Singh, Subramanyam For Sale, Gaddalakonda Ganesh among others.

If you keenly observe, the unknown fact about Harish Shankar’s films is that his films will have dialogues in a different style. Yes, a few dialogues represent the real-life (either personal or professional) of lead actors; fantastic songs; his films have record opening collections because the audiences believe that his movies have complete entertainment. Harish Shankar’s conviction has delivered consecutively blockbusters and numerous awards to his credit.

Today being the director’s birthday, we decided to take a trip down the memory on how he powerfully presented the real-life criticism comments with the most powerful and heroic scenes, where his lead actor was presented with guts, glory, emotion, and no-holds-barred heroism.

Mirapakay:

Mass Maharaj Ravi Teja is one of the coolest dudes in TFI. It’s a known fact to all of us. But, many of you don’t know that when someone pokes Ravi Teja in his real-life, he will give a return gift to his criticizers. Harish Shankar clearly-depicted the same scenario with a powerful dialogue in Mirapakay.

He made Ravi Teja say, “Meeku Norokkate Dhulemo, naku naranaraallo, ollantha dhoole.”

Gabbar Singh:

Power Star Pawan Kalyan played an arrogant cop who cares about nobody and goes by his rulebook. And one could only see Pawan Kalyan and not the character in the film. Such was his aura. “PK ni comment chese vallu chala mandi ane maata – PK tho endukabba, athaniki konchem tikka undi ani”.

Harish Shankar utilized PK’s real-life criticism with the powerful dialogue, “Naakkonchem thikkundi, kani daaniko lekkundi… naa thikkento chupistha, andari lekkalu thelustha.”

Ramayya Vasthavayya:

Jr. NTR faced a lot of criticism because of his personality (Height) in his real-life. So, to give back to the criticizers in his way, the innovative Harish Shankar made it very clear with powerful dialogue.

“Evadu padithe aadu buddodu buddodu ante, guddaloodadheesi kodatha, ala pilavaalante oka arhatha undaali, leda naa abhimaanai undaali.”

Subramanyam For Sale:

Mega hero Sai Dharam Tej faced a lot of negative comments about his entry into the cine world. Many people criticized him that because of his family support (Especially Power Star’s recommendation), he became an actor.

But Harish Shankar hasn’t given any chance to those comments and made it clear with the dialogue, “Power Star Pawan Kalyan fan ni Gabbar Singh chusava ani adakkoodadhura, enni saarlu chusav ani adagaali”.

Duvvada Jagganatham:

Being a star hero, Stylish Star Allu Arjun always encourages talent with his appreciations. After watching films, he always makes sure to give his feedback to his co-stars or directors and heaps praises on any actor/director (no matter debut actor or debut director). And he never takes back step to speak out his heart. Harish Shankar utilized Bunny’s real-life behavior in DJ with powerful and gritty dialogues, “Yad Bhavam Tad Bhavati.” (means your inner thoughts makes your outer appearance), and “Kekaha kekasya kekobyaha.” ( Perfect for his gesture for encouraging talent).

Gaddalakonda Ganesh:

Mega Prince Varun Tej always wanted to prove himself and always looks for a chance to re-invent himself on the silver screen. Be it Mukunda, Kanche, Fidaa, Tholi Prema and the recently released Gaddalakonda Ganesh, Varun always wants to unleash his mega talent.

So, being a hero’s director Harish Shankar utilized Varun’s impeccable talent and made his real-life thirst to acting in a different way in Gaddalakonda Ganesh. The below dialogue sums up Varun’s heartful feeling towards Harish Shankar.

‘Nuvvu Naa Katha rayadaniki raale – Naa katha Marchaneeki Vachhinav’

Need we say more, why Harish Shankar is one of the rarest and realistic directors in the Telugu Cinema?

We wish the marvelous director a very happy birthday, and hope he continues to intrigue and enthrall us with his kind of cinema for years to come!
