Not many know about the rare condition of a seven-month-old baby, Noor Fatima from Bikaner. The baby, who was suffering from the rare spinal muscular atrophy type 1(SMA-1) disease, has breathed her last Tuesday morning.
This neurological disease is caused by a genetic defect called spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). The disease gradually destroys the brain cells that control speech, gait and swallowing. It weakens the muscles and makes it difficult to drink milk and even breathe.
“She was fine till 4 am when she woke up and had milk. But, at around 7am, we found she was not breathing. We rushed her to a hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead,” Zishan Ahmed, father of the baby told.
The parents of the baby thanked each and everyone who supported us and donated money for her treatment. They collected nearly Rs 40 lakh. Notably, they promised to return all the money which they have collected for her treatment. The death came as a shock for people who donated for Noor’s treatment.
