Bad sentiment threatens YSRCP leaders

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is planning to announce his cabinet of ministers on June 8th. In the 15-member cabinet, the new CM has already finalized a few of the names and is yet to take a decision on others.

Meanwhile, Jagan also sought a few of the party leaders to take up the positions of assembly speaker and deputy speaker, but none of the YSRCP leaders are willing to go for it.

Though the positions were much honorable and dignified, the reason behind rejecting is that, those who took up speaker and deputy speaker positions in the past, have lost in the following elections. As none of the speakers for the past two decades have won in any of the elections, it has turned as a sentiment to YSRCP leaders, and are so staying away from it, even after Jagan is trying to convince them.

When TDP won in the 1999 elections, K Prathibha Bharathi was made the speaker, but she had to lose in 2004 elections. KR Suresh Reddy, who was made the speaker in 2004, from Congress party, he had to face the defeat in 2009 elections. In the similar manner, Kiran Kumar Reddy, who acted as assembly speaker in 2009 was made Chief Minister later, but had to lose in the immediate elections in 2014. When Kodela Sivaprasad Rao was made the speaker in 2014, he lost in the recent elections.

Not only in Andhra Pradesh, but also the same sentiment is prevailing in the newly formed Telangana state too. Madhusudhanachary who was Telangana assembly speaker had to face a miserable defeat in 2019 elections.

So unwilling to face the similar fortune in the 2024 elections, none of the YSRCP leaders are coming forward to take up the speaker and deputy speaker positions. So Jagan is currently finding it tough to find a candidate who can occupy Andhra Pradesh assembly speaker position.
