The launch of Ayurvedic medicines for mucormycosis (black fungus) patients will commence from Wednesday in Hyderabad at the two designated hospitals- the Government ENT Hospital and Gandhi Hospital in the state for treatment of mucormycosis cases.
The two hospitals took up around 300 cases of mucormycosis along with a huge waitlist of more patients to be consulted.
100 patient, 50 in each hospital have been studied by medical teams from state’s Ayush department.
Also teams from BRKR government Ayurvedic college have studied the patients in various levels of disease in terms of criticality comprising mild, moderate and severe cases as per the protocol.
“Mucormycosis is a rare disease. But the teams now came up with a treatment after determining observations carefully from different cases. The Ayurvedic medicines will be prescribed to the patients from Wednesday”, said Praveen Medikonda Associate professor at BRKR government Ayurvedic college.
The department of Ayurveda, yoga & naturopathy, Unani, Sidda and homeopathy in the state has been studying 100 mucormycosis patients over the last three days. On the other hand, the Ayush department had been providing preventive treatment for patients recovered from covid-19 including those who had preexisting conditions like diabetes and who had been on exorbitant doses of steroids.
