In a tragic incident, at least 18 Covid-19 patients died in a fire accident at Bharuch Welfare Hospital in Gujarat.
As per the reports, the incident happened around 1 am on Saturday and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Nearly 70 Covid patients were admitted at the four-storeyed hospital, of which 24 were said to be in the intensive care unit.
The fire was contained within an hour and around 50 patients were saved by locals and firefighters, and they have now been shifted to nearby hospitals.
The Coronavirus designated hospital, which is being run by a trust, is located on the Bharuch-Jambusar highway, about 190 km from the state capital Ahmedabad.
Responding to the same, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of patients who died in the terrible incident and said, “Pained by the loss of lives due to a fire at a hospital in Bharuch. Condolences to the bereaved families.”
