Asia’s largest slum Dharavi creating tension in India

Asia’s largest slum Dharavi in Mumbai, is now gaining attention for raising Covid-19 cases. Around 43 positive cases and 4 deaths were recorded in this region. As 15 lakh people live in this region in small houses which are quite close to one another, panic situation is being seen in the Indian officials.

Even though this region is considered to be the largest slum, Dharavi boasts of making a business of around $1billion every year. Each and every home is involved in manufacturing of products and few of them are even exported to foreign countries and are sold by world famous brands with their tag name.

Lock down may not have much impact on Dharavi as the houses are quite nearer and the entire 15 lakh people live as a single community. In this situation, the raise of Covid-19 cases is making Indian officials think of solutions to control in Dharavi. Stay tuned for more updates.
