With municipal elections soon to be held in Andhra Pradesh, recently the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended. A total of 7,263 people withdrew their nominations out of 17,415 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A large number of nominations were withdrawn from Anantapur, Guntur, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayanagaram districts.
The nomination process for 671 divisions under 12 corporations and for 2,123 wards in 75 municipalities ended in March last year. The Election Commission was scheduled to announce the details of the candidates in the fray yesterday, but the Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam city administrations could not announce the list due to delays in the calculations. EC is likely to reveal the details of the contesting candidates today.
