The Andhra Pradesh High Court today issued notices to the Center over the privatization of Vizag Steel Plant. The court on Thursday heard public interest litigation (PIL) filed by retired IPS officer and CBI joint director VV Laxminarayana challenging the privatization of the steel plant.
The HC issued notices to the Center to file a counter-petition. The AP government told the court that it had asked the Center to reconsider the privatization decision. The court adjourned the next hearing for four weeks.
Before filing the petition in court, Laxminarayana wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi on the privatization of the Vizag Steel Plant.
In a letter to Prime Minister, the former police officer said that the Visakhapatnam steel plant is very special to the state. With modern machine tools, the plant is operating with international standards. He said the industry has generated Rs 43,700 crore in tax revenue for the government. The letter also addressed several key points.
