Immediately after taking charge as a new SEC of AP, Neelam Sawhney issued notification for the Municipal elections in AP. The elections were opposed by the opposition parties collectively but the polls were held as per the schedule.
Besides, elections are yet to be held for more than thirty municipalities, corporations in AP. Whereas, Minister Botsa Satyanarayana recently said that the remaining polls will also be held by the end of this month.
With the amalgamation of nearby villages into municipalities, most of the voters in the villages approached courts saying that the voters’ list is not updated. Against this background, the court issued orders to halt the counting process after holding the polls.
Currently, trials are also currently being delayed due to the corona. It is speculated that the government may not hold the municipal elections anymore. With the recent circumstances like curfew and lockdown in the state, it is clear that there is no chance of holding elections.
