The Sri Lankan cricket team that once dominated world cricket is now reeling from the crisis. Compared to a decade ago, the team is now completely ineffective, with a series of defeats and conflicts between the cricketers and the board.
In a shocking development, veteran Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews has informed the board of his retirement from international cricket. He hinted to the board regarding the same and will come with his last decision in the upcoming weeks.
Mathews, meanwhile, is unhappy with his way out of the T20s. The Lankan selectors sidelined him, citing chances for young players. However, the 34-year-old cricketer is one of the few cricketers who has consistently excelled in Sri Lankan cricket for over a decade.
Mathews was not available during the recent England tour as he made himself unavailable because of paternity leave.
Mathews, who made his international debut in 2009, played 90 Tests, 218 ODIs and 78 T20Is for Sri Lanka. He scored a total of 13,219 runs and took 218 wickets.
