The police did not allow the tour of Telugu Desam Party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu in the Chittoor district. Against this background, a tense atmosphere prevailed in many places. Police have placed several TDP leaders under house arrest as part of precautionary measures.
Police house arrested former minister Amarnath Reddy in Palamaner, MLC Dorababu in Chittoor, TDP president Pulivarthi Nani in Chittoor district, TDP leader Narsimha Yadav in Tirupati, and former MLA Sugunamma.
Chittoor police issued orders at 11.30 pm on Sunday denying permission for protests by the TDP at the Gandhi Statue in Tirupati. TDP Chittoor Parliamentary Constituency President Pulivarthi Nani has asked the police to grant permission for the event, which will be attended by party president Chandrababu, as 5,000 TDP workers are protesting in the city.
Whereas the DSP said the permit could not be issued in the wake of COVID-19 and as the election code was in force in the city.
With this, Chandrababu stayed at the airport. Tensions were high in the Renigunta airport as a large number of TDP activists arrived at the airport.
Chandrababu started his protest by sitting in the airport itself. Narasimha Prasad, the leader of the Railway Koduru constituency, who had come to meet Chandrababu, was sent back by the police.
Meanwhile, the leaders who arrived at the airport were arrested by the police and shifted to the police station.
Renigunta police have issued notices to Chandrababu warning him that he will be taken into custody if he violates the rules.
