In Kolkatta an ambulance driver purportedly constrained two young men, who are Covid-19 positive, and their mom to get off the vehicle as they couldn’t pay the high fare he demanded for a six-km distance between two emergency clinics in the city.
The two brothers — one of them aged nine months and the other nine-and-a-half years old– both who got admitted at Institute of Child Health (ICH) were identified positive for Covid-19 on Friday. Subsequently, their father booked an ambulance to rush them to a well equipped hospital.
The father who is a resident of Hooghly district grieved that the driver unfairly demanded high exorbitant price of Rs 9,200 to take them to the Kolkata Medical College and Hospital in the College Street area from ICH situated at Park Circus area.
Notwithstanding, after the intercession of specialists, the driver had to make do with Rs 2,000, the dad of the young men said.
He said that he cant afford that much amount and inccessantly implored the driver to take him. “Instead, he unabashedly removed the oxygen support from my younger son and forced them and their mother out of the ambulance,” said the helpless father.
“I’m thankful to the ICH doctors. It’s because of them that my children could be taken to the KMCH for better treatment, the man further added.
