US President Joe Biden today announced that Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in a drone strike operated by the CIA in Afghanistan on Saturday.
Saying that “justice has been delivered”, President Biden announced that he kept the promise made to US citizens that he would continue to conduct effective counter-terrorism operations in Afghanistan.
“On Saturday, at my direction, the United States successfully conducted an airstrike in Kabul, Afghanistan that killed the emir of Al-Qaida Ayman al-Zawahiri. Justice has been delivered,” tweeted Biden.
In another tweet, President Biden said the US continued to demonstrate “our resolve and our capacity to defend the American people” against those who seek to do harm. “Tonight we made clear: No matter how long it takes. No matter where you try to hide. We will find you,” he tweeted.
As per the US data, Ayman al-Zawahri, who is now killed in the air strike, had helped Osama bin Laden plot attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. He also ensured Al-Qaida survived and thrive in the years after.
