Starring Suhaas and Chandini Chowdary in the lead roles, Colour Photo built up decent expectations, thanks to the impressive teaser and trailer. The film will be out on Aha Video at 6 PM today and we have been to a special screening of the film a short while ago. Here is our review of the love drama.

Story:

Colour Photo is set out in a rural village in Machilipatnam in the year 1997. Jayakrishna(Suhaas) and Deepthi Varma(Chandini Chowdary) go to the same college and the fomer falls in love with the latter. But for various reasons, he struggles to express his love to Deepthi. Luckily for Jayakrishna, Chandini shares similar feelings and proposes to him, much to his elation. The young couple is deep in love despite the cliched colour barrier. However, Deepthi’s brother Rama Raju(Sunil) who comes to know about her love story shifts her to Vijayawada and asks her to severe ties with Jayakrishna. Will the young couple triumph the hurdle and get back together? To know the answer, you should watch the film film.

How about on-screen performances?

All the actors in the film do a fairly good job and the casting is bang on point. Suhaas who turned famous by starring in YouTube videos is a great talent. He strikes the perfect balance between comedy and emotions which is an essential trait for an actor. Chandini Chowdary is also very good in her role. She looks really cute and emotes quite well. Sunil plays a character with negative shades and carries it off with ease. Viva Harsha evokes good fun with his comical antics in the first half. The comedy scenes between Suhaas and Harsha in the opening 40 minutes are partly engaging. Subba Rao who plays male lead’s father does a good job and so does Adarsh Balakrishna.

How about off-screen talents?

The film is technically sound and the crew behind the camera deserves a special mention. R Venkat’s cinematography is top notch as he captures the rustic visuals quite well. The film is visually appealing, thanks to his good work. The music director Kala Bhairava breathes life into proceedings with his background score. The first half is crisp but the second half needed more attention at the editing table.

Sai Rajesh’s story is a tried and tested one, but the treatment and set-up (year 1997) are relatively fresh. The colour barrier concept has been presented well. Coming to the debutante, Sandeep Raj, he narrates the first 40 minutes in a gripping manner with good comedy quotient. But things get way too predictable in the second half as the screenplay is formulaic. He does succeed in getting the best out of his actors and technicians but fails to carry the tempo of the film all the way through. He could have done a better job. Benny and Sai Rajesh’s production values are good.

What’s Hot?

Suhaas and Chandini’s performance

Sunil’s presence

Excellent music and visuals

Fun-filled opening 40 minutes

What’s Not?

Slow-paced narration after opening 40 minutes

Half-baked love track

Lack of emotional connect

Weak climax

Verdict:

Touted to be a simple and engaging love story, Colour Photo neither has excellent screenplay nor does it completely disappoint. It ends up as a mediocre love drama that is not so colourful. Predictable story is the biggest weakness of the film. Barring a few comedy scenes and a couple of bright moments here and there, the film is narrated in a routine manner.

Watch or not?: Those who like love stories might give it a try in their spare time.
