During the lockdown, a large swarm of individuals were seen at Hyderabad’s Charminar for Eid shopping is triggering more fear mongering among the public owing to the second wave of covid-19. Although Telangana government enforced restrictions including a lockdown to control the Covid spread in Telangana, this incident proves that the situation is not under control yet.
Telangana is currently under a 10-day lockdown beginning from Wednesday, with a four-hour break between 6 and 10 in the morning to allow people to procure essentials.
At Charminar in the old quarters of the city this morning, hundreds of Muslims were seen walking flouting the social distancing rule at the Madina market, as part of shopping for the Eid festival on Friday. Not every one were covered with masks too. Since cars are banned as part of the new restrictions, citizens unaware of it, caused more traffic jam when the cars were seized by the traffic police in numerous parts of the old city.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi is among those big shots who have compelled people to pray at home this Eid as a safety measure to curb the spread of the infection.
As per the recent health data, a slight downward trend in Covid case numbers over the last week but mass gatherings like the one near Charminar remains to be a major concern to be addressed by the state administration.
Telangana has covid active cases of 37,04,099 as of today.
