There is an inconsistency in the Rs 684 crore Garuda bridge being constructed in the city under the Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited.
The accident took place when cement segments on the Garuda Bridge slipped from down-ramp at the Srinivasam Devotee Housing Complex in TTD. People panicked due to loud noises.
The monopoly company which set up these segments between the two pillars four days ago is reported to have been negligent in erecting them on the pillar. This caused all the segments to slide down.
No casualties were reported as none of the workers were on duty at that time.
Tirupati Municipal Commissioner Girisha, Tirupati MLA Karunakar Reddy, and Urban District SP Ramesh Reddy reached there and inquired about the possible reasons for the incident from the representatives of the monopoly company Afcon.
They said a full investigation into the incident would be conducted. TDP and other opposition parties blamed the collapse of the Garuda bridge segments on the negligence of the authorities.
They demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the construction of the Garuda Bridge.
