During the early hours of Friday, a major fire accident broke out in the Srisailam Hydel Project. Currently, 9 staff members are stuck inside the project, and efforts are being made to get them out safely.
At the time of the accident, 30 staff members were working at the project, out of which 21 had escaped through escape tunnels and came out to safety. The other 9 staff members were sadly trapped inside. The project is now engulfed in huge smokes and fires, and the fire department is doing its best to rescue the staff.
A short circuit is said to have led to the fire in the first place. The accident occured in the first unit of the power station, and four of its panels have been damaged as a result.
This project is located on the left bank of the Krishna River, and serves as a border between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Telangana minister Jagadish Reddy and TS Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao have already reached the area and are inspecting the situation, while also making sure that those who have been trapped are released safely.
This is the first such major incident in Telangana, which has not witnessed any major incidents during the lockdown period, like AP has.
Further details about the incident are still awaited.
