The final phase of Telangana local body elections is underway on Tuesday.The voting has been conducted for 161 ZPTCs and 1,708 MPTCs. 30 other MPTCs will be declared as unanimous. The State Election Commission has announced that polling began amid tight security at 9,494 polling stations at 7 a.m. and will continue till 5 p.m.
The first and second phases of elections were held on May 6th and 10th. A total of 1.56 crore voters are eligible to vote in all three phases of polling. The elections are being conducted in three phases for a total of 5,817 MPTCs and 539 ZPTCs across Telangana. The counting of votes will be taken up on May 27th.
It is for the first time after the formation of Telangana to conduct the elections at ZPTC, MPTC level and not much to the surprise of many, TRS has every chances to sweep the polls, just as they did in Assembly polls earlier.
