With the sudden spurt of the COVID-19 cases in Surya Pet, Telangana, the officials surrounded the entire area and sealed to prevent the further spread of the virus. The majority of the cases are reported in the vegetable market, and the officials from Hyderabad directly landed at the market in a helicopter.
On the direction of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Director General of Police Mahender Reddy and Medical and Health principal secretary Shanti Kumari rushed to the spot along with some other prominent officials.
After they undertook the preventive measures, all of them participated in a review meeting to assess the present situation and to plan for the upcoming days which are going to be crucial for the Telangana state. Till now, 83 cases have been reported in Surya Pet and many people are in quarantine with a long list of suspects.
The government has also appointed IAS Sarfraz Ahmed as the special officer for Suryapet to take all necessary steps to check the spread of coronavirus. CS Somesh Kumar said that strict orders were issued to the police for the implementation of the lockdown uncompromisingly.
Suryapet, one of the eight hotspot districts in the state, had reported 26 positive cases on Tuesday. Those tested positive include six children with one-and-half-year old being the youngest.
