Angered over MP Kavitha, over 200 farmers resorted to contest for the Nizamabad MP constituency in Telangana. While 245 farmers submitted the nominations, 12 of them were rejected and the rest 232 nominations have been accepted. The TRS government’s failure in bringing the Minimum support price for Turmeric and for not establishing a National Turmeric Board, resulted in the agitation of the farmers.
According to the farmers, the turmeric’s market price is too low and they are unable to get back their investment. Earlier, the farmers also conducted a padayatra to Hyderabad. But the police had denied permission and imposed section 144. It’s then, the farmers took a decision of contesting in the elections against Kavitha.
Responding to the allegations, Kavitha said that she is doing her best efforts for setting up of turmeric board, but no government is really concerned about turmeric farmers, except the TRS. Meanwhile a few of the TRS leaders opine that BJP and Congress politically motivated the farmers to agitate against TRS but the farmers however denied them.
At a point of time, where Telangana Chief Minister KCR is being lauded as the best Chief Ministers of the country and KTR is receiving praises all over, for his commitment towards the social issues, Kavitha alone from the Kalvakuntla family is finding it tough to impress the people in her constituency. This in fact is a bad sign for her and it should be seen, how the situation would impact her political journey in the coming days.
