Tamil actor Dhanush has come up with his latest film, Sir, directed by Venky Atluri. The film marks the actor’s Tollywood entry, and there have been good expectations on the film. The film has been released today, and let’s see how it has turned out to be.

Story:

Balu is a teacher in a private institution and is sent to a government college by his institution as part of a plan. At the government institution, Balu begins to make a major change by getting all the students to classes and helping them pass their exams. This becomes a problem for the private institution’s head. That causes a few hurdles for Balu. What are those and how are those finally solved forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances

As usual and as expected, Dhanush steals the show with his effortless performance. His performance reminds one of Rahuvaran BTech, as there’s a certain care-free attitude involved in the whole act. Whenever he’s on the screen, the scenes get interesting and grabs your attention.

Leading lady Samyuktha Menon is good enough in her role, and does her part well. She doesn’t have  lot to do but her scenes with Dhanush are good.

Samuthirakani has not been given anything new to work with in this film. He has been seen in these kind of roles previously..

Sai Kumar, Hyper Aadi and other supporting characters are good in their roles and provide what is expected of them..

Off-Screen Talents:

Director Venky Atluri has recycled a very familiar concept for the audience. He has just changed the background and setup of the film and that doesn’t really help much. Certain scenes and emotions make you feel like you’ve seen them in so many films already. His screenplay also doesn’t help the narration. There’s nothing new that the director has to offer with Sir. The first half is mildly entertaining but the second half is weak with slow narration and the climax is routine as well. The message that they chose to tell feels very half-baked. Venky Atluri has got a wonderful chance to do a film with Dhanush and it is sad to see that he couldn’t make use of that opputunity.

The dialogues by director Trivikram Srinivas are good and are laced with his signature punchlines.

The music by GV Prakash is good, especially the songs. The background music is also quite good and adds to the proceedings of the film.

The camera work is good as well, and the production values are rich. The editing could have been so much better, though.

Plus Points:

  • Dhanush performance
  • Music

Minus Points:

  • Poor second half
  • Half-baked lesson
  • Weak screenplay

Verdict: Sir is a film that has a meaningful lesson at its core. However, it is told in a very unentertaining manner and in a very routine template that it becomes a bore after a point.

First Half Report: Movie is pretty average so far. Plot has been established but proceedings are slow. Hyper Aadi comedy track, lead pair love track are entertaining, rest of the first half is okay. Film needs to pick up in the second half for a hit report

Second Half Report: Second half low on entertainment level. The plot point is weakened in the second half with very slow proceedings. A very predictable screenplay. First half is much better. Overall, an average movie
