Telugu Desam Party state secretary and former Vijayawada corporator Chennupati Gandhi was attacked brutally by YSRCP members in Vijayawada on Saturday evening. The members of the YSRCP reportedly tried to kill Gandhi, but were stopped when they were interrupted and stopped by the locals. This left Gandhi with a severely damaged eye, which was attacked by an iron rod.
Gandhi was immediately admitted to the LV Prasad Eye Hospital in Vijaywada for treatment but was later shifted to the LV Prasad Eye Hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment upon Chandrababu’s insistence. Gandhi won four times as the corporator of the 9th division, and his wife is now serving as the corporator of the 9th division. The attack took place when Gandhi was busy discussing several complaints regarding the pipeline leakage in the 9th division. The YSRCP members reportedly attacked Gandhi with the intent of killing him, as he hadn’t passed the regulations sanctioned by the YSRCP government.
Chandrababu responded to the incident, saying that the incident is deeply saddening and that this represents the kind of environment that the YSRCP government is harboring in the state, one of hate and violent politics. Naidu also said that he advised all of the local leaders to make sure that Gandhi recovers completely and that he should be taken proper care of.
