Director Puri Jagannath had a lot of hopes for his latest release, Liger, which featured Vijay Deverakonda in the lead role. The film was released on August 25th, and had decent expectations on it. While the film opened to good numbers, it didn’t manage to impress the audience, and tanked miserably at the box office, turning out to be the biggest disaster of the year.
Much before the release of Liger, Puri and Vijay collaborated for Jana Gana Mana, Puri’s dream project, which he initially wanted to make with Superstar Mahesh Babu. Two schedules of the movie were event completed before the release of Liger. With Liger turning out to be a huge disaster, there were reports that the future of JGM was in trouble.
As such, JGM has now been put on hold officially by Puri himself, who took the decision after talking to the investors of the film, and with Vijay Deverakonda as well. There’s no clarity on when the shooting of the film would resume, and it would resume at all in the first place, after this. On the other hand, Puri is expected to meet with the buyers of Liger very soon, and compensate for their losses.
