It is known that Sri Lanka is battling an unprecedented economic crisis and the island nation is witnessing protests everywhere.
The latest news is that thousands of protesters broke through police barricades in Colombo and stormed the president’s official residence early today. With people rushing into his house with Sri Lankan flags and helmets, the officials managed to shift President Gotabaya Rajapaksa out of that place.
A naval official from Sri Lanka on Saturday said Gotabaya Rajapaksa was on board SLNS Gajabahu, and will stay out in the sea until it’s safe for him to return to the mainland.
Sri Lanka is struggling under a harsh foreign exchange shortage that has diminished essential imports of fuel, food and medicine, dropping it into the worst financial turmoil in seven decades.
