The first test between India and New Zealand ended in a draw after the visitors survived a testing final session. The Kiwis were 9 down in the chase of 284 runs on Day 5, but they got through it and stayed very much alive for the series’ win.
Set a target of 284, the visitors were 165/9 when the stumps were called after an interesting final day at the Green Park.
Ravindra Jadeja was the best bowler for India with his figures of 4/40 while Ravichandran Ashwin picked three wickets. Meanwhile, Ashwin added one more achievement to his name as he surpassed Harbhajan Singh to become the third-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. Ashwin now has 419 wickets in 80 Test matches for India. Anil Kumble’s record is at the top with 619 wickets, followed by Kapil Dev’s 434 wickets.
The second match will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where the team will also be joined by skipper Virat Kohli.
