After the resignation of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder, everyone was waiting eagerly to see who would be the new Chief Minister of Punjab, and the speculations have been put an end to today, with Charanjit Singh Channi having been officially announced as the new CM of Punjab, by the Congress Party. He has also met with Governor Banwarilal Purohit.
A lot of names were considered as the potential CMs of Punjab, after the resignation of Captain, including that of Sunil Jakhad, Pratap Singh Bajwa, Rajendar Kaul Bhattal and Sukhinder. Sukhjinder was almost confirmed as the CM, but he was suddenly dropped as the CM candidate, and Charanjit has been selected in his stead.
Born on April 2nd 1973, Charanjit won as the MLA from Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency 3 times. He also worked as the Education Minister in Amarinder’s cabinet and even represented Congress in the opposition party’s place from 2015-2016.
