Karanam Malliswari is the first woman to ever win an Olympic Medal for India. The Aam Aadmi Party has now appointed Malliswari as the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Sports University, which is now creating waves across the Telugu states. Everyone from the Telugu states, prominent people and otherwise, are congratulating Malliswari, on her being appointed as the Vice-Chancellor. Jana Sena Cheif Pawan Kalyan also congratulated her, to which she replied as well.
While feeling happy for her, people on social media are even feeling sad that Malliswari, being a Telugu person, could never serve in the Telugu states. In an interview, the same question was asked to Malliswari, on why she never served in the Telugu states, and Malliswari was quite honest about it. She said that when she won the Olympic Medal in 2000, the Telugu Desam government promised to encourage her in setting up an academy for athletes, and for encouraging people from rural areas. She also said that she was promised land for an academy, in North Andhra, which never came to pass.
Malliswari also said that she had once again approached the Collector during the Telugu Desam government about the promises made to her, but nothing seemed to be promising. She also said that neither the YSRCP government nor the TRS government in recent times showed any interest in her attempts. However, Malliswari said that she is willing and hoping to boost the infrastructure of sports in the Telugu states, in the coming future.
