In a rude shock to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, the Passport Authority of India has refused to renew the passport of the actress citing an FIR registered against Kangana and her sister under IPC sections 153A, 295A and 124-A (sedition).
The actress, who was booked by the Bandra Police on sedition charges, has moved the Bombay High Court, seeking directions to officials to renew her passport so she can fly abroad for the shooting of a film.
The interim application filed through advocate Rizwan Siddiquee last week stated that Ranaut needs to travel to Hungary for the shooting of her movie ‘Dhaakad’, from June 15 to August 30.
As per the plea, the actress’ passport is to expire on September 15, and therefore she had applied for its renewal to the Passport Authority of India.
A division bench led by Justice Prasanna B Varale will hear the plea on Tuesday, has kept the next hearing of her plea for June 25. Terming it vague, the court ordered that the PAI has to be made a party or respondent in this application since passports concern them.
