We have had the opportunity to catch up with the very gorgeous and talented Poorna, whose film Powerplay recently released in theatres. She has shared a lot of interesting things with us, and here’s what she said.

How are you doing?

I am good

What are your upcoming projects?

Currently, I am doing Balakrishna Sir’s film with director Boyapati Srinu. Sundari is done with shooting and ready for release, and I am also doing a cameo role in Drishyam 2. There are a few other films in other languages that I am also currently working on.

Could you tell us a little about your role in Balakrishna film?

I am doing a very good role, and I am very excited about it. I got the call to do the movie, suddenly, and I was very thrilled about it. I am very excited for people to see me doing this role.

Your film Powerplay has recently been released in the theatres. Could you tell us a little about your role in the film?

Powerplay is directed by Vijay Kumar Konda, and Raj Tharun is the hero in it. For the first time in my career, I have played a role with negative shades. I was initially very scared about how people would react to that, but right now, I am very happy that people are appreciating my role and that they have liked it. Apart from that, despite being a negative role, I have a very important part to play in the film.

Are you willing to do more negative roles in the future?

I am someone who concentrates more on my performance and prioritizes it. I am willing to do any kind of character – positive or negative – as long as it is crucial to the story and as long as it has a good scope. I am also doing female-centric films right now and am willing to do more. I am very much open to doing any kind of role as long as it is not a character role.

Who’s your favourite costar from Powerplay?

I did not have any scenes with Raj Tharun or the heroine. My scenes were mostly with actor Ajay, and he is a terrific actor and costar. But I think my director is my favourite costar.

Would you want to do another film with Vijay Kumar Konda?

I would absolutely love to work with Vijay Kumar Konda, sir, once again. He’s such a calm and sweet person, and he brings that same vibes to the set, making everyone feel very comfortable.

What’s the best compliment that you received for Powerplay, and from whom?

My friends liked my role, but it was nothing new for them. They said that most of the time, they see me as the person from the film, so they actually liked it and even pulled my leg. So yeah, I think they gave me the best compliment.

Is there any actor or role that you looked up to and took inspiration from to play the role in Powerplay?

Ramya Krishna ma’am was my biggest inspiration. Since this is the first time that I have done a negative shade character, I looked up to Ramya Ma’am’s Neelambari character from Padayappa (Narasimha) most often. So she was there in my mind for most of the time.

Why do you think the audiences should go to the theatre and watch Powerplay?

Powerplay is a thriller film. The visuals, sound effects and the entire narrative will be more appealing when you watch it in a theatre. I know that the situation is still not perfect, but Powerplay would be the perfect escapist movie from reality, and you would really enjoy it with a theatrical experience only.

In Tollywood, from all the characters that you have played so far, which one is your favourite?

Avunu is my favourite. I had to literally feel scared and make the audiences feel so, and this was especially a challenge for me because there was nothing for me to get scared of. I had to do it on my own. I had to push myself and my capabilities to make that happen.

Who’s your favourite director in Tollywood so far that you’ve worked with?

Every director I have worked with so far has their own style. Everyone is a perfectionist in their own right, and I would want to work with all of them once again if I had the chance to, so all of them are my favourite.

Who’s the one director and actor that you would love to work with?

I would want to act with anyone who thinks I can do justice to the role they want me in. There’s no director in particular that I want to work with. I am willing to work with everyone. I would love to work with NTR sir and Allu Arjun sir very soon, and hopefully, be able to dance with them as well.

Do you have any plans to do a dance-oriented film anytime soon, given that you’re a great dancer yourself?

I have been waiting to do such a film for a long time now. I am waiting for the right script and team to work with.

What would you like to say to your fans?

I would like to thank all of my fans for their relentless support all these years. It’s because of their love towards me and their support that I am still going strong in Tollywood, with several roles. It’s been years since I debuted in Tollywood, and till today, you’ve all been encouraging me and constantly supporting me. I will forever be grateful for your support.
