The National Green Tribunal expressed dissatisfaction with the construction quality of the Polavaram project. It was alleged that no care was taken in the construction.
The High Court has decided to appoint a committee headed by a retired judge. The committee consists of IIT and IISER experts.
Petitions have been filed in the NGT highlighting the damage that will be caused to the environment due to the construction of Polavaram by not taking proper precautions.
After the hearing on these petitions, the NGT came to the conclusion that proper care was not taken in the construction of Polavaram.
NGT has expressed concern that if proper precautions are not taken, there is a danger of floods in AP like in Uttarakhand.
