The association of Democratic reforms (ADR) say that 24% of the members of Rajya Sabha have criminal records and they have researched this from the affidavits given by the candidates during the nomination process. 80% of RJD MPs, 67% of AAP and Shiv Sena MPs, and 50% of YSRP, NCP, and CPM MPs have cases.
In our country, Members of Parliament with criminal backgrounds is not a new phenomenon, but despite Modi’s campaign vow in 2014 to clean up corruption and the influence of money in politics, of course, which no one took seriously, the problem appears to be more worsening.
It is quite astonishing to know that nearly 43% of the new members of the lower house of Parliament were charged with criminal cases that convened in 2019 for the first time since the election won despite facing criminal charges. There are serious criminal cases against 60% of RJD MPs and 50% of AP’s ruling party YSR Congress’ MPs.
The ADR further said that the majority in the House of Elders were billionaires. The seven represented from Telangana Rashtra Samithi are billionaires and Five out of six YSRCP members are crorepatis. 90% of MPs in BJP and 93% in Congress are billionaires.
Out of all, Bihar JDU MP Mahendra Prasad is the richest MP with assets of Rs 4,078 crore. YSRCP MP Ayodhya Ramireddy came in second with assets worth Rs 2,577 crore. In terms of debt, YCP’s Parimal Natwani (Rs 209 crore), Alla Ayodhya Ramireddy (Rs 154 crore) tops the list as well.
