Sand Mafia is mostly heard in YS Rajashekar Reddy’s regime in the past. The ministers of his cabinet, played a key role in the mafia. The issue was made public, when the differences arose between the leaders. Since then, the sand has become one of the major income sources for the politicians and the political parties.
So, to put an end to the Sand Mafia in the state, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy imposed strict rules on Sand and made sure that the Sand will not be available to anyone for three months.
Finally, the state government has now announced the new Sand Policy. According to it, 1 tonne of sand is Rs. 375 plus travelling charges extra. To make sure that the sand reaches the concerned party without any involvement of the third parties, GPS tracking system has also been introduced.
But the thing to be noted is even several YSRCP leaders are involved in the Sand Mafia and are bagging crores with the Sand. So, a majority of such leaders are not happy with the new policy. Adding to it, the opposition leaders are anyway said to go against the ruling party. So Jagan may not be facing a clear road to implement the new policy, as there is a severe backlash from all the sides.
